Abstract
The rate of removal of sulfur from silver sulfide and cuprous sulfide at 300 and 385°C, respectively, has been determined as a function of the metal activity in the sulfide with the help of electrochemical measurements. From the results, it is concluded that hydrogen molecules react mainly with sulfur atoms adsorbed on Ag2S but with sulfur ions adsorbed on Cu2S. The significance of the results for the interpretation of catalytic reactions is discussed. Keywords
