Abstract
THE purpose of this communication is to sketch the status of acquired congenital anomalies of the mouse against a background of experimental embryology; to report progress in the induction of such anomalies by oxygen lack of different degrees maintained for a five-hour period during pregnancy; and to analyze the part played by fetal age (stage of development) as well as anoxic stress. With such excellent monographs as those of Needham,1 Brachet2 and Weiss3 available, no attempt is made to review the massive body of embryologic knowledge; the literature on the biology4 and genetics5 of the mouse alone is voluminous.
