Rotational bands in151Sm

Abstract
The properties of the energy levels of 151Sm have been studied in the 150Nd( alpha ,3n)151Sm reaction. Two rotational bands of contrasting character have been observed in this reaction. One band is interpreted as being a rotational band for which the strong coupling scheme is applicable and which is built on the h11/2 mod 505 mod state with a large prolate deformation. In the other band states of spin 13/2+, 17/2+, 21/2+, ... are strongly populated. Their energy spacings are similar to those expected in the ground-state band of the even-even core. These states may be interpreted either as a strongly perturbed K=1/2 band or, in terms of the rotation-alignment model, as a band in which the i13/2 neutron is decoupled from the core.
