A quantitative thin-layer chromatographic method for the determination of riboflavine in pharmaceutical preparations

Abstract
A precise and simple method for the determination of riboflavine has been developed. The method is based on the chromatographic separation of riboflavine by using a thin layer of silica gel G and the solvent mixture chloroform-ethanol (98 per cent.)-water (50 + 25 + 1). There was no interference from thiamine, pyridoxine, nicotinamide, calcium pantothenate, panthenol, ethinyloestradiol, progesterone, tetracycline, oxytetracycline and liver extract in the spectrophotometric determination of riboflavine at 444 nm.
