Abstract
The equation for motion of a dislocation recently discussed by Gillis, Gilman and Taylor is used to evaluate dislocation acceleration. It is shown that in this theoretical framework dislocation acceleration times are four orders smaller than the rise times of experimentally generated stress waves and, therefore, ought to be of negligible effect in the analysis of problems of plasticity. Keywords
