Evidence for Production of anN*(1400)andN¯*(1400)in the Reactionp¯p(n)→p¯pπ+π−(n)AT 2.8 GeV/c

Abstract

In the reaction $\overline{p}p\left(n\right)\mathrm{}\to \overline{p}p{\pi }^{+}{\pi }^{-}\mathrm{}\left(n\right)\mathrm{}$ at 2.8 GeV/c, enhancements in the mass spectra of $\overline{p}{\pi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}$ and $p{\pi }^{-}{\pi }^{+}$ have been observed near 1400 MeV. Analysis indicates that these enhancements cannot be adequately explained as kinematic reflections of $N^{*}\mathrm{}\left(1238\right)\mathrm{}$ and/or ${\overline{N}}^{*}\mathrm{}\left(1238\right)\mathrm{}$ production.
