Abstract
The distribution function of the "hot electron" is investigated in germanium for the case of a small applied electric field, where both acoustical- and optical-mode scattering exists. The electron energy loss due to the interaction with the optical mode is found to be quite large and it eliminates large parts of the quantitative discrepancy between the previous theory and experiment. Keywords
