Abstract
Restoration of motility in ATP solutions was demonstrated in cilia isolated from T. pyriformis after inducing ciliary shedding by addition of CaCl2 to cells suspended in an ethanol solution. This is accomplished by subsequent treatment of the cilia with reagents such as glycerol, ethylene glycol or digitonin-sucrose solutions. The glycerinated cilia can also be reactivated in ADP. Some characteristics of the reactivation treatment and ciliary activity are discussed.
