METABOLIC EFFECTS OF SOME HALOGENATED ACRYLIC ACID ANALOGUES OF THYROXINE1

Abstract
The essential features of the thyroxine molecule are [image] In this study, thyroxine-like activity (increased oxygen consumption in rats) increased when R was changed from an amino group to an acrylic acid to a propionic acid. With any given R, iodine in the 3,5 positions imparted more activity than bromine and addition of 2 more atoms of the particular halogen in questinn at 3[image],5[image] yielded still further increases.
