Abstract
Recent experiments on externally shunted Josephson junctions by Hansma, Rochlin, and Sweet were interpreted as being in accord with the model of Stewart and McCumber. This interpretation is questioned for that portion of their experiments which employed shunts of relatively large inductance, in view of an underestimate of the effect of the inductance, and an alternate interpretation of the observed behavior in these situations is suggested. The interpretation of similar experiments of Buckner, Chen, and Langenberg is also questioned for similar reasons.
