Abstract
A new type of optical modulator is proposed in which a guided wave is resonantly excited by a grating coupler. The guiding layer is made of electrooptic (EO) material. The excitation of the resonance is controlled by a modulation voltage across the EO layer. This device acts either as a bulk EO modulator or an EO waveguide modulator. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
