Abstract
A NUMBER of investigators1 2 3 4 have described withdrawal symptoms after the abrupt cessation of meprobamate§ treatment. Ewing and Fullilove5 reported a case seen in this hospital, and as we observed similar cases our interest was stimulated concerning the problem of the possible undesirable effects of meprobamate.Such reports and our observations suggested the advisability of a study to ascertain the magnitude of this problem. Our primary purpose was to determine whether withdrawal symptoms did occur and if so at what dosage levels and after what period.
