Abstract
The superiority of the thio/Liquoid system over either plain thioglycolate medium or thio/citrate is demonstrated by the fact that recovery of the pathogen was accomplished in all 314 positive patients from at least 1 of 3 thio/Liquoid flasks, and from only 244 and 203 of these same patients when plain thioglycolate or thio/citrate, respectively, were used. When Gram-positive cocci were encountered in a patient, recovery of the organism at the 24 hr. subculture was accomplished in 80% of the thio/Liquoid systems, but in only 50% of either the plain thioglycolate or thio/citrate systems.
