Identification of Sibling Species, Aedes Triseriatus and Ae. Hendersoni, by Electrophoresis1

Abstract
Field studies of adult Ae. triseriatus to detect La Crosse encephalitis virus are hampered by the presence of a closely related but nonvector mosquito, Aedes hendersoni. The technique herein developed unambiguously distinguishes the 2 species using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The possible extension of this technique to other mosquito groups is discussed.
