Factors affecting lactic dehydrogenase and glutamic oxalacetic transaminase activities in cerebrospinal fluid

Abstract
A biphasic curve is obtained when cerebrospinal fluid protein concentration is plotted against the age of patients. LDH (lactic dehydrogenase) and GOT (glutamic oxalacetic transaminase) activities increase with increasing age of patients. LDH and GOT activities increase with increasing protein concentration. Significant correlation is often obtained for LDH activity plots against protein concentration in specific neurologic conditions. The specific activities of LDH and GOT are significantly lower in patients with menlngioma than in normals. The specific activity of LDH for patients with multiple sclerosis is significantly lower than that in normals.
