Regression of Lymphosarcoma Produced by Intraperitoneal Administration of 95% Ethyl Alcohol

Abstract
CH3 mice bearing 63CHED tumors (lymphosarcoma) were divided into 2 groups; one was given 19% ethyl alc., the other 95% alc.. by daily intraperit. injns. There was high mortality in the mice receiving the concentrated solns. The animals showed gross inflammatory changes in the peritoneum and intestines. The process was usually localized. No toxicity was observed with the diluted alcohol, and there was no tumor regression. A high percentage of mice receiving con- -centrated alcohol showed tumor regression. Alc. in itself did not cause the regression since 0.30 ml. of the dilute alc. caused no tumor change, whereas 0.02 ml. of the concentrated alc. caused marked reduction. This was confirmed by his-tologic study. There was diffuse cell necrosis throughout the entire tumor. The changes resemble those obtained with bis([beta]-chloroethyl) sulfide.
