Abstract
Infections of mice with 8 strains of streptococci were successfully treated with sulfaphenazole (1-phenyl-5-sulfanilamidopyrazole), while 4 strains proved resistant to therapy. In 11 of 12 cases, the therapeutic results could be predicted based on in vitro sensitivity tests. The possible reasons for discrepancies are discussed, with special consideration of the number of organisms used in the vitro test and in the animals.
