Abstract
FORTY NINE young adults were interviewed about their views on health and smoking. Content analysis of their replies revealed certain differences between men and women and between smokers and non- smokers in their views on health, health mainte nance, illness, causes of illness and the health hazards of smoking. The implications of these findings for the development of future anti-smoking programmes are discussed. Keywords
