AGAMMAGLOBULINEMIA IN ADULTS

Abstract
The case of a 38-year-old male with agammaglobulinemia is reported. The characteristics of recorded cases in adults are tabulated. Recurrent infection is the common finding. Gamma globulin values are very low, 0.06 g/100 ml in this case. Splenomegaly, reticulum cell hyperplasia, a sprue-like syndrome and at times hypersplenism may occur. Gamma globulin is most likely formed by plasma cells and plasma cell maturation fails to take place. Treatment with gamma globulin was given in this case and is advised.
