Abstract
The study of fractions obtained from rat anti-DNP (2,4 dinitrophinol] antibody and from normal rat gamma globulin has revealed the existence of a component with the mobility of a fast gamma globulin, whose carbohydrate content is at least twice that of rat IgG. This immunoglobulin has been classified as IgA. No anaphylactic activity could be demonstrated in rat IgA. These results support the hypothesis that the antibody which mediates anaphylactic phenomena within each animal species belongs to a distinct family of immunoglobulins, different from IgA.Keywords
