Ovulation in the Domestic Hen

Abstract
Through the use of an anesthetic (nembutal) it was possible to observe ovulation in 11 birds (Gallus domesticus). In most instances the ovum was dropped in the cavity about the ovary and then engulfed by the infundibulum of the oviduct. In some cases the infundibulum was in a position to receive the ovum at the time of the rupture of the follicular membranes. An accurate recording of the time spent by the forming egg in the various parts of the oviduct was also secured.
