Abstract
A new leucoanthocyanidin was isolated from G. coleosperma (Rhodesian copalwood) and shown to be a 4[image], 7-dihydroxyflavan-3,4-diol (guibourta-cacidin). It is accompanied by 3[image],4[image], 7-trihydroxyflavan-3,4-diol and by tannins (mol, wt. 2200) which are polymers of both these leuco-anthocyanidins. The flavonol, dihydroflavonol and flavan-4-ol analogues of guibourtacacidin, as well as a corresponding flavan-3,4-diol, have been synthesized.
