ATYPICAL PORTER-SILBER REACTION AFTER THE ADMINISTRATION OF SULFAMERAZINE

Abstract
Butanol extracts of the urine of patients treated with sulfamerazine contain a compound, which develops an orange color with phenylhydrazine in H2SO4 (absorption maximum at 4850 A.). The absorption band of this colored product covers the absorption region of the typical Porter-Silber chromogens. After the administration of therapeutic doses of sulfamerazine the orange color is so intense, that it is not possible to apply the method of Reddy, Jenkins and Thorn for the determination of corticoids to these urines.
