Ineffectiveness of Sulfonylureas in Alloxan Diabetic Rats.

Abstract
The oral administration of 1-3-butyl-p-tolylsulfonylurea to normal rats results in a marked hypo-glycemia within 1 hour which persists for 4 hours. No significant change occurs in the blood sugar of similarly treated alloxan diabetic rats. The hypoglycemic action of the sulfonylurea is attributed to the inhibition of insulin destruction by insulinase.
