Dispersion of Hypersonic Waves in Liquids

Abstract
The spectrum of light scattered from thermal sound waves has been studied to provide information about velocity and absorption of hypersonic waves in several liquids. Relaxation processes have been observed in CS2, CCl4, C6H12, C6H6 , toluene, acetic acid, and nitrobenzene. In water at 6 Gc/sec, neither the Sound velocity nor its coefficient of temperature dependence differs from their values at 5 Mc/sec.
