Abstract
A temporary rise in the urinary excretion of albumin, β2-microglobulin, insulin, and luteinizing hormone was found 1 to 3 days after surgical or accidental trauma. This rise was undoubtedly due to an increase in urinary clearance since the serum levels were unchanged. The largest changes of urinary clearance were observed for β2-microglobulin and insulin, where the mean increase was 60 and 40 times the preoperative levels respectively. Administration of cortisol to a normal man did not increase the urinary clearance of the polypeptides.
