Abstract
A study was designed to document the responsiveness of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis to the stress of circumcision during the 1st 6 h of life. There was a rise in both serum cortisol and cortisone levels in all infants studied. The rise in cortisol was greater than the rise in cortisone in all infants.
