Abstract
Petrographic studies indicate the sediments were derived mainly from andesites with minor contributions from microdiorites, greywackes, and limestones. The sediment appears to have been transported from the north-east and was deposited in a tectonically active, marine sedimentary basin which existed in the central Kaipara region in lower Miocene times. Keywords
