Stratigraphy and sedimentology of the Waitemata Group, Puketotara Peninsula, Northland

Abstract

Petrographic studies indicate the sediments were derived mainly from andesites with minor contributions from microdiorites, greywackes, and limestones. The sediment appears to have been transported from the north-east and was deposited in a tectonically active, marine sedimentary basin which existed in the central Kaipara region in lower Miocene times.
