Relationship between Ragweed-Reagins and Serum Immunoglobulins

Abstract
The sera of 6 ragweed-allergic patients were separately chromatographed on DEAE-Sephadex A-50. The bulk of the reaginic antibodies were localized in DEAE-Sephadex fractions containing [gamma]G and devoid of [gamma] A globulins. The rest of the reaginic antibodies were found In fractions containing both types of immunoglobulin. Fractions containing [gamma] M globulin were inactive. Immuno-absorption of the reaginicaUy active fractions with antisera specifc to [gamma] G and [gamma] A globulins was without effect on the reaginic activity of these fractions. The relationship between reagins and [gamma] D globulin was discussed. Ragweed-reagins belongs to an uncharacterized immunoglobulin class.
