Abstract
Satisfactory growth of meningo-cocci in early generations outside the human body was obtained on a liquid medium of completely known composition. This medium contained 8 substances, in the following amounts, stated in grams per liter: d-glutamic acid, 1.3; l-cystine, 0.012; NaHaPO4 . H20, 2.5; KCl, 0.09; NaCl, 6.0; NH4Cl, 1.25; MgSO4 . 7H2O, 0.6; glucose, 5.0. The pH was 7.3. Candle jars were used. 14 strains of meningo-cocci were grown. After 48 hrs. incubation the bacterial N averaged 0.4 mg. in 5 ml. of medium. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
