Abstract
Experiment 1 investigated acquisition and retention of an escape response as a function of age in rats. Original learning of a 4 choice shock maze was equal in 25-day and 100-day old rats, but after a 75-day retention period the young group made significantly more errors during relearning than the old group. Experiment 2 studied retroactive inhibition as a function of age in the same apparatus. After equal interpolated learning the young rats showed significantly poorer retention of original learning than the adults. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
