The Experimental Production of Glycogen Deposits in Nondiabetic Rats

Abstract
Forty Wistar rats were maintained without food and water for varying periods of time. They were sacrificed by decapitation and sections of their kidneys were stained by the PAS technic. Glycogen deposits which corresponded in appearance to the human lesion of Armanni-Ebstein were found in the renal tubular epithelium. Blood and urine sugar determinations indicated no hyper-glycemia or glycosuria. Corresponding control animals fasted 12 hours with water showed no lesions and no hyperglycemia or glycosuria.
