Kink and String Models of Dislocation Motion

Abstract

The formal equivalence of the string model and kink models of dislocation motion is demonstrated for dislocations not lying along the same close‐packed row. The only modifications of the older formulation of the string model arise from the hypothesis of lateral kink displacement as the mechanism of dislocation displacement.
