Rupture and Thrombosis of the Renal Artery Following Abdominal Trauma: Report of two cases

Abstract
Two unusual cases of isolated, non-fatal traumatic injury of a renal artery are described, complete rupture of a renal artery in a 14-year-old boy, and thrombosis of a renal artery in a 18-year-old girl. In neither case was there laceration of the kidney or other significant intra-abdominal injury. Both patients had only moderate symptoms and neither had hematuria. The importance of early roentgen examination in such cases is stressed. An-giographical demonstration of arrested flow of contrast medium through the renal artery may be due to rupture or thrombosis of the vessel and indicates immediate surgical exploration.
