Meridional Flux of Angular Momentum in the Tropics

Abstract
The results of an attempt to measure the meridional flux of angular momentum across the vicinity of 13° N latitude from actual wind data are presented. It is found that the average flux for one year is directed northward but is much smaller than the corresponding flux at 31° N as obtained from a similar hemispheric study made earlier for that latitude. According to the data the flux at 13° is due mainly to horizontal exchange processes which are most vigorous at an elevation of about 35,000 feet. DOI: 10.1111/j.2153-3490.1952.tb00995.x
