A Device for Obtaining Flies of Known Age1

Abstract
During studies with the face fly, Musca autumnalis De Geer, concerning various aspects of its biology in relation to adult age, it was desired to test groups of flies having a known mean age and as small an age range possible. Such groups of flies were initially obtained systematically transferring cups of puparia (at eclosion) through a series of cages. However, this method required frequent attention and could not be used conveniently during night hours.
