Prediction of (so-called) gas–gas immiscibility in fluid mixtures

Abstract
The equations of state of Guggenheim and of Carnahan and Starling have been shown, in distinction to that of van der Waals, to give an account of the two kinds of “gas–gas immiscibility” of binary fluid mixtures (two fluid phases at temperatures higher than the critical temperature of the substance with the higher critical temperature) in qualitative agreement with experiment. Critical lines pc(Tc) have been calculated for four mixtures and phase diagrams p(T, x) for two of them.
