INTRA-ARTERIAL NITROGEN MUSTARD IN THE TREATMENT OF PELVIC CANCER

Abstract
Patients (29) with far-advanced non-resectable cancer in whom the principal manifestations of disease were in the pelvis were treated with nitrogen mustard instilled into the lower abdominal aorta. A catheter was passed into the aorta via a percutaneous needle puncture of the femoral artery. Some evidence of clinical improvement occurred in 62% of the patients with significant benefit in 48%. Except for transient nausea and vomiting, there was no significant toxicity. No serious technical complications occurred.
