ADJUSTABLE SUTURES IN STRABISMUS SURGERY

Abstract
Strabismus surgery with adjustable sutures of adsorbable material was performed in 19 patients, aged 8-69 yr, who had paralytic strabismus and/or were reoperated. Ocular alignment was assessed at 1 wk and 3-12 mo. postoperatively. In 12 patients, eye position was stable during that period. Of them, 11 had good or moderate binocular vision. Eye position changed over the follow-up period in about half of the patients with poor binocular vision. No evidence was found for any muscle repositioning by mechanical stress during suture absorption.
