Abstract
Sources of morbidity and mortality data for stroke in Australia are described. Mortality data of the major forms of stroke in Australia between 1950 and 1967 are examined. Analysis of mortality rates and cohort experience Indicate that there has been an apparent decline in death rates from stroke in Australia from 1950 to 1967. The decline has been greater in women than in men and is not explained by possible changes in diagnostic habit. The implications of the apparent declining mortality from stroke are discussed. Keywords
