Photodisintegration of Helium

Abstract

The integrated electric dipole absorption cross section ${\sigma }_{\mathrm{int}}$ and bremsstrahlung-weighted cross section ${\sigma }_b$ are calculated for ${\mathrm{He}}^4$. By using a two-body interaction operator having a Serber exchange character with a repulsive core and tensor component, it is found that ${\sigma }_{\mathrm{int}}=107\mathrm{}$ MeV-mb and ${\sigma }_b=2.73\mathrm{}$ mb, in reasonable agreement with the current experimental values: ${\sigma }_{\mathrm{int}}=95\mathrm{}\pm 7$ MeV-mb and ${\sigma }_b=2.4\mathrm{}\pm 0.15$ mb.
