Thyroxine Serum Protein Complexes in Schizophrenia

Abstract
Protein carriers of thyroxine were investigated in male schizophrenic patients and normal subjects. In vitro techniques using one-dimensional, vertical starch gel electrophoresis followed by radio-autography or direct counting of activity in the gel or both were used. The findings of previous workers in normal subjects are confirmed, together with the demonstration of 2 additional protein carriers. It is suggested that a large volume of serum separated in the investigation facilitated the demonstration of the extra protein carriers. The results in schizophrenic patients are qualitatively similar to those in normal subjects.
