Abstract
This is concerned with a defense of the scheme of intertidal classification as put forward by T. A. and A. Stephenson. This classification can be applied to Tasmanian coasts with satisfactory results. Particular reference is made to the Supralittoral Fringe and Infralittoral Fringe. It is suggested that the term "zone" be used to descr. the major regions of the shore, e.g. the Supralittoral Zone, each of these zones being composed of animal or plant belts or bands.
