Abstract
When an amyl acetate soln. of l-(chloromercuriphenylazo)-naphthol-2 is shaken with dilute tissue homogenates, the decrease of optical density of the clear, amyl acetate supernate was found to be proportional to the -SH content of the homogenate. Based on this principle a colorimetric analytical procedure was developed. The apparent -SH content of tissue homogenates depends on the homogenizing medium; distilled H2O and protein denaturing agents increase it.
