Production ofJ(ψ)inppscattering

Abstract

The hypothesis of a heavy-quark-antiquark meson (orthocharmonium) for the 3.1-GeV resonance leads, in the context of a general peripheral model, to predictions for the cross sections (and their energy dependence) for $J\left(\psi \right)$ production. The $p_{\perp }$ dependence is predicted to be quite different from that of the pion. At higher energies, charmed particles are expected to be produced in conjuction with each $J\left(\psi \right)$. Related problems are discussed.
