Abstract
Criteria are presented for distinguishing the molting stages of Armadillidium vulgare. The tegumental glands of the legs are shown by the nadi test with selective inhibitors and by incubation in dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) solution to contain polyphenol oxidase throughout the molting cycle. The possible role of the tegumental glands in sclerotization of the cuticle is discussed.
