Abstract
A method to measure peak shifts in electron energy distributions to resolutions several orders of magnitude smaller than the peak widths is described. It is a continuous measurement applicable to any analyzer capable of using the ac method of derivative detection. Its application to the temperature dependence of the position of the ``d‐band'' peak in uv photoemission from Ni shows that it is capable of detecting 1‐meV peak shifts in this case. Keywords
