Inheritance of Sexuality in Chlamydomonas Reinhardi

Abstract

The sexual reaction was determined for each clone developed from individual cells liberated from 249 zygotes of C. Reinhardi. All clones were heterothallic, indicating that the genes for sex are at the same locus and not at different loci as found by Moewus in 5 spp. of Chlamydomonas and 1 sp. of Polytoma. In C. reinhardi some liberated cells fail to divide and develop into colonies for some undetermined reason which is not correlated with sexuality.
