Abstract
This experimental study of the kidney and ureter was undertaken to determine the effect produced on them by some of the common surgical procedures or by accidents to them during operations on other organs. The problems studied have been classified into four series, and the phases investigated have been arranged in groups. Series I.—The effect on the kidney and ureter of complete sudden occlusion of the ureter or of complete sudden occlusion of the ureter and the collateral venous circulation. Group 1. Double ligation and section of the ureter (twenty-two experiments). Group 2. Double ligation and section of one ureter and the collateral venous circulation (thirty-one experiments). Series II.—The effect of occlusion of the various vascular radicals of the kidney. Group 1. Ligation of the renal artery (five experiments). Group 2. Ligation of one or more branches of the renal artery (sixteen experiments). Group 3. Ligation of the renal vein
