Studies on Delayed Hypersensitivity to Proteins and Protein Conjugates

Abstract
Picrylation of γ-globulins suppresses both their ability to induce delayed hypersensitivity and anaphylaxis to the carrier protein in guinea pigs. Furthermore, picrylation decreases the reactivities of the test antigens in both systems. These data provide no evidence for a dissociation between the antigenic sites responsible for antibody production and delayed hypersensitivity. Difficulties inherent in the application of chemically altered proteins to studies of this type have been emphasized.
